Puffins in Iceland

We went on a puffin watching tour in Iceland. I've always thought they were really cool. They live at sea all year, until they come ashore to mate and raise their young from May to August. Puffins raise their young in a few other places, but Iceland has about 60% of them.
They mate for life. They only see their mate during mating season. They dig burrows in cliffs and islands up to 10 meters deep. There really aren't any predators for them here and so it's a good place to raise a family. The Icelanders eat them sometimes.

This is us getting ready to go. We had only been in Iceland a few hours. This was our first activity and we had been up for about 24 hours with traveling. It was very windy and a lot colder than we were used to.

We rode in a smallish boat around this island in the bay. I am not the best photographer, but her are my better shots.

Our guide.

Beautiful scenery.

This is an Eider Duck from which Eider down comes from.
